Visual output options for posts
This is a detailed overview of how we output posts onto the website and organize information on the back end to place and display our individual posts on the front-end of the site.
Each post is assigned a category or multiple categories. A post in WordPress must be assigned a category. If it is not, it defaults to the category unorganized. In addition to being assigned a category and/or sub-categories, we can affix terms assigning tags to further our output query. Such categories and tags can be output. into the website as archives pages (another way wordpress outputs content). These archives have output structures designed specifically for them (otherwise will utilize the default layout structure defined by the websites theme). A category can have a single template layout assigned to it should one choose to have an output layout that is unique to that particular category.
This post is utilizing the single layout structure OACC MAIN. It is only editable in our cornerstone editor under single layouts and any editing done on the structure affects all posts assigned with this – our default post layout. The query is “if post type is post”.
An alternate single post styling has been created – “MAG LAYOUT ALT” and can be assigned to any post by assigning the tag “twocolumn” to such post (done within the wordpress default post editor). It runs and additional query – if Post Type is Post and Post Tag is twocolumn. This splits the top banner with a two column display of terms left and image right of the incoming post. To achieve this the “excerpt” term is being utilized to display the opening text or paragraph of the post so such opening text of the post should be stripped.
Each post outputs utilizing this single layout template methodology or query structure – it is important to remember that outputting a post to a single post layout structure is done through the single templates query structure – one has a visual template structure (design template) and a query assignment through whatever logic contained within its assigned query.
Within this website – at least for the moment – we will output to one of these to post layouts. Complexity for post design includes the post creation in cornerstone. The headers and post assignments are what are carried through in the single layout structure. Body is the “content” and that is where the complexity resides.
