To Those Who Work The Land
An Open Letter of Gratitude to the Farmers, Harvesters, and Producers of Carlton County and the Fond du Lac Reservation
From all of us in the surrounding region who gather around dinner tables filled with your hard work, we send our deepest thanks. Your labor—sunrise to sunset, in every kind of weather—feeds not just our bodies, but our communities and spirits.
To the farming families and producers of Carlton County and the Fond du Lac Reservation: thank you. Your dedication to raising some of the best food in the world—whether it’s crisp vegetables, rich dairy, tender meat, or hand-harvested syrup—makes this region strong, healthy, and proud. You work the soil, tend the animals, and follow the seasons with patience and knowledge passed through generations. Your work is foundational, and it matters more than words can say.
We also want to recognize and thank the skilled hands who preserve the bounty. To the canners, picklers, and syrup-makers who show up week after week to the Carlton and Moose Lake Farmers Markets with jars and bottles full of love and tradition—your efforts carry the harvest beyond the season and make local food accessible year-round. Your craft honors the land and adds flavor and richness to our lives.
We are grateful not just for the food itself, but for the values it represents—sustainability, community, and respect for nature. You remind us what it means to eat well and live connected to the place we call home - a big part of why we love it here!
With humble gratitude and continued support,
Your neighbors and fellow community members
