beginnings as a dance intstructor
I taught dance within different area schools through Community Ed programs, teaching classes right within the school buildings. I taught in Moose Lake, where I had quite a few students for many years. I also taught in Cromwell, Wrenshall, and McGregor—really, just all over Carlton County. Eventually, I purchased the studio from her, and that’s when we settled into our own location."
it's not just about performing
At the younger ages, we're really focused on physical developmental skills that are crucial for that stage. They're learning how to stand properly, align their bodies, wait for directions, and follow basic instructions. These foundational skills are so important—not just for dance, but for their overall development.
Once they reach around age 8, they move into our higher-level classes. At that point, we start introducing more advanced elements, including leadership skills and deeper aspects of dance. They learn about stage directions, how to count music, and even begin to explore choreography—how to actually create a dance piece.
It's not just about performing anymore; we want them to understand the creative process behind what they’re doing. So when a teacher presents choreography and says, “Here, do this,” they realize it’s not random. There’s a whole thought process and a lot of work behind it.
