Like many creatives, I move fluidly from one arena to another. Preparing tasty meals with locally sourced ingredients is part of my daily practice and feeds both my body and my soul. Correspondingly, my Studio is constantly filled with sewing projects as I explore self-care through stitch meditation and make quilts to warm my loved ones. Quality ethically sourced materials join reclaimed elements as I fashion articles to heed my motto of “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”
Between Hither and Yon
This is my current favorite quilt.
It started with, “Can I learn to sew nice curves?” (Yes!)
The next question was, “What fabric wants to be showcased here?” (This cross-hatched pink from the ‘80s or ‘90s.)
Then, “What are the rules for the little arc pieces?” (Mostly tone-on-tone, must be scraps.)
“Must I modify Denyse Schmidt’s pattern?” (Yes. We need a Hither and we need a Yon.)
“What about the quilting?” (Find the color and follow the lines. You’ll know.)
Did this quilt ask to be created, complete with instructions? Yes!
