Event Ideas
Children’s Reading and Meet the Author Event
September 4, 2025
It might be an outdoor event with local children book authors tent-stationed around the grounds of O-House. Maybe a map is included. Reading maps is fun!
Kids make the rounds, listening to different stories, learning from authors by interacting via an activity or Q&A time: “What made you want to write a book? How did you know where to start? Where did you get your story idea? What kind of background do you have? Who did your illustrations? How did you find that person? How did you get your book published? Did you have any doubts? Did you worry about no one liking your book? How do you learn to handle constructive criticism?”
Perhaps there would be a station where the kids can write their own book, with the help of the authors giving them ideas, prompts, amidst laughter, having fun, and lots of art supplies to get their creative juices going.
Reinforcing the fact that “Everyone Has a Story…or a 100!” And that every story matters. We learn to build community by reading about the experiences of people who are like us and who are very different from us!
Campfire reading of their books if any kids want to share.
Snacks of course, and get-yourself-moving games and activities for those who need it!

Deborah,
I like the idea of doing things for children and especially like the idea of kids creating their own stories. As we get things up and running we should visit this idea. We need to get you on the directory – I can help you with that. Hit be back if that sounds good.
