Welcome Participant

Your participation will help our community become stronger and more vibrant - the living, breathing community of which we are a part. A member of our community once said, "the most priceless, most valuable gift you can give to the other is the gift of your time.” Thank you for the gift of your time within this place we call home.

About this project

At its heart, OACC is about mutual flourishing—a concept that recognizes the interdependence of people, place, and purpose—that people and place thrive together.  The project invites participants to explore how our landscapes and livelihoods sustain us, and how we, in turn, nurture the land and one another. Through its web platform, OACC seeks to speak to the “heart and soul” of this region, revealing its quiet strength, resilience, and grace to foster deeper connection, pride, and understanding among neighbors.

This is not a social media web platform though it has similar elements - posts, profiles, community engagement and ways in which to connect with others of our region.  It is not a platform that intends to generate profit.  It is a platform free of algorithms and free of advertising.  We are not attempting to reveal online the community to which we live, love and belong. We provide oacc.us as a connecting platform to develop programs, projects and events that connect us and deepen our understanding of who we are as a people - a community that shares common roots, common ground and common good.

Passion and Creativity

In the region we call home, we produce food and art that is world-class. From local sources, our region's artisans and makers craft products of the highest quality. Our people naturally possess a 'love of place' found in few places on earth.  The City of Carlton is the smallest city in the 'lower 48' to have an indoor hockey rink. And it was entirely community built. Our region has a history of coming together to support one another. For these reasons and many more, We Love it Here. With that community spirit, we create this website to tell our collective story.

The farmer whose hands are found within the soil and the dancer with hands in the air, the blacksmith with hammer and anvil and the quilter with needle and thread - what do they have in common? Passion.  Passion for the creative spark that moves within them - the passion to create. It does not matter the form of expression - for the farmer it may take months from seed to harvest - for the poet but a moment of inspiration here and gone.

Their collective efforts following their passion reminds us of who we are—and who we can be. Our creativity matters. With it we preserve culture, inspire dialogue, and strengthen the very fabric of our region. Such work—often unseen, often underappreciated, will always remain vital.  It makes our community not just livable, but luminous.
