I am a painter and muralist fascinated by the way science fiction suggests a future for humanity transformed by environmental changes and technological innovations. My invented landscapes ask viewers to consider unfamiliar places, such as the lines between true false, fiction and documentation, natural growth and urban development.

In the early 2000’s I worked in Antarctica for the National Science Foundation where I developed knowledge of climate related experiments. Currently, I’m a member of the Twin Ports Art Science Collaborative and my work has been influenced by researchers and activists from the Lake Superior watershed and the SPRUCE climate change project in the Chippewa National Forest.

Artist Studio/Workplace

I come from a family of artists, and I always admired what they did. As a child, I was drawn to creating things myself. I grew up in the country, and around the age of 8 or 9, I spent a lot of time alone. I was the youngest sibling, and my brothers and sisters were much older than me. My main companion was our German Shepherd, Tuffy. I’d be out in the woods with him, playing and exploring. The forest became my playground — it’s where I felt free and inspired. That’s when I started sketching. I was drawn to trees, animals, and nature — everything around me.

My art is a celebration of nature and the whimsical—where vibrant acrylic landscapes meet the playful colors and the animals that inhabit them. From rolling, hills to the quiet marshy wetlands, swamps and streams to a curious gaze of a fox and rabbit in the tall grass, my work is all about capturing the magic and personality found in nature.

My art practice has been evolving for more than forty years. Initially inspired by the avant-garde movements of the 1960s, I was later drawn to conceptual art, which challenged traditional ideas of form and aesthetics and led me to question their relevance.

Event Host Details

I spent a long time exploring nested spheres—just studying their structure, really looking at the form of the sphere itself. That’s where the work began. From there, I started incorporating landscape elements. Most of the imagery comes from the same general regions—places like Sisi in Italy, Rome, and Toledo in New Mexico. And then there are pieces based on Jay Cooke. They all feed into the work in different ways. In terms of technique, I’m working with multiple images. I take fragments from each and fit them into the curvature of the sphere, using a curved grid to guide the composition.

About the People and Art Here

Presenting

Storefront and Workplace

We are a team of 8, hand-pouring your candles and home fragrance in a dedicated studio by the thousands. We only use 100% soy wax, farmed in the US. Our fragrances are phthalate-free and we don't add anything fancy or frilly. What we do add is an element of sound. All of our candles are made with wooden wicks that crackle softly as they burn, like tiny little bonfires.

Event Host Details

Woodfire Candle Company is an artisan, woman-owned and operated, candle studio located in the heart of Esko, Minnesota. We began in 2012, pouring one candle at a time, in a kitchen at our home in Duluth, Minnesota. We gifted friends and family with our one-of-a-kind creations which turned into selling to local boutiques and shops around our area. We quickly outgrew the kitchen. Then the basement. Then the garage.

Artist Studio/Workplace - Hosting Other Creatives

Pottery has become a big part of my life, and teaching it is what I love most—not as much the production side, but I still do it to support myself. I also want to create a space where people can come and talk about pottery, similar to the experience at Canal Park, where you can see a glassblower in action.

These pots are a traditional form of Korean pottery, quite old and typically made in two pieces that are joined together. I’ve been trying to make them in one piece, though I’m not sure exactly what inspired me to do that. There’s just something about them that really catches your eye—the sheer volume and their simplicity. They're not overly intricate, though some of mine are a little quirky, which I love. There’s also this almost coral-like texture in the modern interpretation, where the surface is designed to reflect the moon.
